Hanoi is the capital city of Vietnam and one of the most captivating destinations in Southeast Asia. With a history that spans over a thousand years, Hanoi is a city where ancient traditions seamlessly blend with modern influences. It is located in the northern part of the country, situated on the banks of the Red River.

One of the distinguishing features of Hanoi is its charming Old Quarter, also known as the "36 Streets." This historic district is a maze of narrow, bustling streets lined with traditional shop houses, where each street specializes in a particular trade or craft. Exploring the Old Quarter is like stepping back in time, with its preserved architecture, vibrant street life, and bustling markets. Here, you can find a wide range of goods, from traditional handicrafts to delicious street food.

Hanoi is a city of cultural significance, with numerous temples, pagodas, and historical landmarks. The most iconic symbol of the city is the Temple of Literature, a Confucian temple dating back to the 11th century. It was Vietnam's first national university and remains a symbol of education and scholarship. Other notable landmarks include the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, where visitors can pay their respects to the country's revolutionary leader, and the One Pillar Pagoda, a small but significant Buddhist temple known for its unique architectural design.

How did I end up here & where did my wanderlust lead me after arriving in Hanoi?

You won’t believe how excited I was to start my trip from Perth to Hanoi, with a quick stop in Kuala Lumpur. Vietnam had always sounded amazing, but being there in person was even better! The people were so kind and welcoming.

When I landed in Hanoi, I was buzzing with excitement. The airport was super calm and peaceful, like a little oasis. Even though it wasn’t busy, the quiet made the start of my trip feel really special. I grabbed a taxi to Ninh Binh, which is just beautiful. I spent three fantastic days there, exploring the Mua Caves and really connecting with the natural and historical vibes.

Then I headed to Cat Ba Island, which felt like a slice of paradise. It’s surrounded by the emerald waters of Ha long Bay and the South China Sea. I spent three amazing nights there full of adventure during the day and so relaxing at night.

When it was time to leave Cat Ba Island, I went back to Hanoi. I spent my last two nights soaking up the city’s lively energy. Every moment in Hanoi just made the trip even more unforgettable.

Let these experiences serve as the gateway to your own remarkable journey of discovery and adventure.
