Few days in Albany, WA
Visit Albany, WA
December 2023You can always google Albany in Western Australia, and you would have all the information that you need. You'd know that it is located in the Great Southern region of the state of Western Australia. However, what Google won't tell you is that the region where Albany is located echoes the scale of five countries combined.
How big is the Great Southern region?
This remarkable region is nearly on par with the collective land areas of Lebanon, Qatar, Jamaica, Luxembourg, and Brunei.
To put it in perspective, the Great Southern region rivals the Netherlands in size. And that makes this region a captivating destination where the landscape unfolds in harmony with its expansive dimensions.
Just imagine vast landscapes with turquoise and blue ocean water, white sandy beaches, green hills, and rugged granite formations. That's Albany in the Great Southern region. Now, picture having this serene heavenly place all to yourself. Yes, Albany doesn't have a large population, and sometimes, you might feel like you're alone in this paradise.
How to get to Albany?
The journey from Perth takes a bit over 4 and a half hours. Albany, though small town, offers a warm and cosy atmosphere, surrounded by the calming essence of the countryside. It's best to have a car to go there because public transport in Albany isn't that great. You can either hire a car in Perth and drive down to Albany or catch a Trans WA bus from Perth and then hire a car in Albany. Either way, you'll need a car in Albany to fully enjoy the natural wonders of the region.
You can take a flight to Albany from Perth. it's the same travel time in a plane as from London to Amsterdam, but with a twist – you'll still be in Western Australia. At least with London to Amsterdam, you get the bonus of a new country.
Tip: If opting to fly to Albany just remember it's the Albany in state of Western Australia not the Albany in New York.
How Long should you stay in Albany?
While you can spend as much time as you like in Albany, I'd recommend at least 7 days for a full immersion in the experience.
