Exploring Europe: A personal journey through its history & beauty
November 2022 Europe is a place full of history, different cultures, and amazing views, and it's a dream for many people to visit. In November, that dream came true for me when I started an incredible trip through some of its most famous cities. I explored the busy streets of Munich, enjoyed the strolls in Salzburg, experienced the beautiful scenery in Innsbruck, and felt the lively vibe of Amsterdam. London and Zurich were also part of my journey, and I knew this trip would be one to remember. Join me as I share my European adventure, a journey that might inspire and excite you from beginning to end.
Four cities in three countries
Munich, Germany→Salzburg, Austria→Innsbruck, Austria→Zurich, Switzerland
The Alpine Trio—Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—are neighbouring countries located in Central Europe. Their respective cities, Munich, Salzburg/Innsbruck, and Zurich, have strong interconnectivity due to their proximity to each other and the presence of various modes of transportation, making it easier for tourists to explore the unique offerings of each city.
From the shores of Perth to the bustling city of Munich, my journey across the globe was nothing short of epic. After enduring the jetlag of a long-haul flight with a layover in Singapore, I finally arrived in Germany's vibrant Bavarian capital. I spent two blissful days exploring Munich's charming old town and indulging in hearty Bavarian cuisine. But my thirst for adventure was far from quenched, so I hopped on a train to Austria. There, I lost myself in the baroque beauty of Salzburg for three magical days, before heading to the snow-capped peaks of Innsbruck for two more. Each step of the way, I was struck by the unique charm and character of these European gems, and I can't wait to share my journey with you.
A note on Planning: If Zurich is also on your bucket list, just like me, it makes more sense to travel from Innsbruck, Austria, to Zurich, Switzerland, due to their connectivity and proximity. I, however, didn't do that because of weather conditions and other circumstances, as I had to catch up with a friend in Amsterdam. Click the links below for more details on how I spent my days in recommended order of Munich, Salzburg, Innsbruck and Zurich. Once you've read all about it, you can arrange your itinerary based on your preferences and weather conditions.
Things happen & plans change. Rains! Snow! Bad weather! Anything can ruin your itinerary.
I was in Innsbruck after visiting Munich and Salzburg. My plan was to take a train to Venice, but rain was forecasted for three days. I didn't want to explore Venice in the rain, despite having waterproof clothes.
So I changed my plans and found that Amsterdam was the only place nearby with clear skies. I booked a flight to save time, cancelled my Venice hotel (thanks to the "free cancellation" option), and said goodbye to Innsbruck for a new adventure in Amsterdam's charming canals.
If you come across similar problems when your planned cities are hit by bad weather, you don't have to stick to cities you originally planned to go to. Have your 'backup cities' planned as well. Unlike Australia, flights to neighbouring cities are cheap in Europe. When I finished my two days exploring Amsterdam, believe it or not, the only place where it wasn't raining was London. And other major reason to travel to London was my childhood friend, who came all the way to Amsterdam from London just to catch up with me.
